Performance by the BUTŌ Lab performance art group:
Snow Melts. Snow Blossoms
We invite you to experience a special dance performance event at the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE, where in collaboration with BUTŌ Lab the museum spaces will transform into a stage and come alive through the rhythms of movement.
The performance Snow Melts. Snow Blossoms by the performance art group BUTŌ Lab expressively reflects on the Japanese aesthetic concept mono no aware, which evokes a sensitivity to the ephemeral nature of things and phenomena, the authenticity of the present moment, and the discovery of beauty in transience experienced through a ritualistic process. It is an attentive and respectful observation of the world and a state of awareness – whether in the melting of snow or the falling of sakura petals.
The true meaning lies not in text or visible form, but in the in-between space (ma), in context, personal perception, and what remains unspoken. The performance invites the audience to observe and experience a processual, meditative, cyclical, and deeply personal transformation – a symbolic farewell to the departing snow and the creation of the image of a new spring blossom.
