Collection of works by other artists
Although Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova did not actively collect art, they owned several works by other artists. These were primarily drawings and prints created by their contemporaries, which were likely acquired as gifts.
The collection was similarly expanded in later years through their daughter Tatjana Suta, who met numerous artists featured in her broadcasts while working in television.
Today, the collection includes around 60 works by other artists. Of particular historical value is a female portrait painted during his student hears by Aleksandrs Drēviņš, a close friend of Suta’s youth, alongside graphic works by several member of the Riga Group of Artists – Sigismunds Vidbergs, Oto Skulme, Niklāvs Strunke and Erasts Šveics.
The museum’s collection also features several works by students of the art studio led by Romans Suta, including Aleksandrs Junkers, Jānis Plēpis, Oļģerts Ābelīte and Nikolajs Puzirevskis, as well as Bernhards Dannenhiršs, Sergejs Antonovs and Aleksandrs Birzenieks, who were Suta’s colleagues in the Riga Graphic Artists’ Society. Notable works from the Soviet period include paintings by Lidija Auza, Edvards Grūbe and Jānis Pauļuks, as well as graphic works by Māris Ārgalis.
