Me and Art II (ages 10–adults):
Plein-air landscape after Teodors Ūders
In this Saturday's lesson, we will continue to explore the diverse possibilities of depicting landscapes.
Teodors Ūders (1968–1915) differed from other Baltic artists of his time in his vision. He depicted simple working people and symbolic characters in existential and dramatic situations, believing that art was often too sophisticated. Ūders felt that life had a much simpler and stronger energy. This is clearly visible in his expressive charcoal drawings. Ūders called his method real symbolism.
After getting acquainted with the artist's works at the exhibition "Embodied Thought", we will go to the park near the museum and choose a motif. In the drawing with black oil pastel, we will dramatize both the rhythms and contrasts of the landscape to achieve a slightly mysterious and ominous expression.
What to bring: black oil pastel
The class will be led by museum educator and artist Baiba Sprance
