Plein air with watercolor
We will dedicate the July Saturday creative classes "Me and Art II" to plein air work.
Plein air painting, or painting outdoors, has been an important part of artists' practice for over a hundred years. When going outside the studio, artists try to capture the impressions and moods of the moment. Many of the Latvian landscape painters on display at the museum also created their works outdoors, seeking inspiration from the surrounding environment.
This Saturday, we will go to the park near the museum to paint a landscape. We will observe how light and shadow are formed, how colors mix in tree branches and grass, creating different nuances of green. We will learn how to show space and depth, and we will also simply enjoy how nice it is to be in nature on a summer day and paint a landscape.
What to bring: gouache or watercolor paints
The class will be led by museum educator and artist Baiba Sprance
Additional information
- In good weather conditions, the class will take place outside at the museum or in the Class Room, on the 1st floor.
- Gathering for the class in the lobby on the 2nd floor near the Information Point.
- It is advisable to arrive at the museum approximately 10–15 minutes before the start of the event, so that you can use the box office and cloakroom services at your leisure.
