Moffat Takadiwa

Moffat Takadiwa lives and works in Zimbabwe. He is a prominent voice from the post-independence artist generation in Zimbabwe. Takadiwa’s work centerstage his Korekore heritage while engaging with themes such as consumerism, inequality, post-colonialism and the environment. He has consistently devoted his work to critical explorations of how material, environmental, and social factors impact the reality of contemporary daily life in Zimbabwe. In his work, he uses post-consumer waste, such as computer keyboards, bottle caps, and toothbrushes etc. Macrobiotic in his approach to material, his repurposed objects tell stories of each piece’s past lives to viewers to confront their own ecological and colonial legacies.

Takadiwa is also a founder of Mbare Art Space in Harare, where he plays a major role in mentoring the growing artist community, establishing the world's first artistic centre dedicated to repurposing reclaimed materials.

In 2024, Moffat Takadiwa was featured in the Zimbabwe Pavilion of the Venice Biennale.

The exhibition shows two works of the artist: Spoon Fade (2024) and Zuva / Sun (2024).
