The composition of the shield's decoration is based on the 17th-18th-century ornaments on the breast buckle of the horse's harness (in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA)). It was decorated with floral motifs and mihrab arch forms, which are typical of the ornaments on the harness of the Crimean Tatar warrior horse. In the centre of the buckle, a six-petalled flower was engraved on a convex gilded plate. Adjacent to this were six mihrab elements with floral, rosebud and daffodil motifs. The main circle of the buckle is set in a hexagonal hexagram decorated with floral ornaments on the edges. This combination of a circle set into a hexagram is a classic in Crimean Tatar art and is used on mosque roofs, tombstones and jewellery.

The ceramic shield is decorated with the ornament of the convex part of the brooch. It is framed by a hexagonal star. The arrangement of the elements is similar to the original, as the aim was to preserve the symbolic meaning of the composition. The main colours of the shield are brown and yellow. They echo the combination of copper and gold on the buckle.
