Latvian Museum Association’s Special Award 2021:
Let's Play?
The Latvian Museum Association's Annual Award 2021 is being presented for the twelfth year, and the museum offerings and work in 2020 were shaped by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year brings several novelties to the history of the award, as for the first time, the winner of the LMA Annual Award was a single museum, twelve nominees were announced, and the award itself has also taken on a new form.
The special award for creative approaches to involving visitors in exploring museum offerings was presented by the Estonian exhibition design and production company "MOTOR" to the Latvian National Museum of Art for the project – the exhibition Let's Play?
The project is the second professional art exhibition created by the Latvian National Museum of Art specifically for children (ages 3-9) and family audiences. The exhibition continues the initiative started in 2018 by the LNMA Communication and Education Department – the exhibition Who is a Friend to Whom?
The goal of the exhibition was to offer families a shared positive experience at the museum, overcome various potential emotional barriers related to visiting a museum, and create in every visitor the belief that the museum is a place where they are welcomed.
