Latvian Museum Association Annual Award 2023 nominee:
Exhibition and Event Program “PURVĪTIS”
On May 22, 2023, as part of the Museum Day organized by the Latvian Museum Association, the LMA Annual Award 2023 will be presented. This is an annual competition in the museum sector aimed at recognizing and highlighting the most outstanding achievements of Latvian museums, as well as promoting good practices and the sustainable development of the sector.
The achievements of Latvian museums last year have been not only extensive but also diverse, surprising, and, of course, competitive. It is a pleasure to explore these accomplishments further by seeing how museums build successful collaborations both internally, with other sectors, and with society,
the jury work comments Elīna Bērziņa, Board Member of the Latvian Museum Association.
One of the nominees for the Latvian Museum Association (LMA) Annual Award 2023 is the exhibition and event program “PURVĪTIS” of the Latvian National Museum of Art, led by Aija Brasliņa.
The exhibition “PURVĪTIS”, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the outstanding Latvian landscape painter Vilhelms Purvītis, took place from May 28 to October 16, 2022, at the main building of the Latvian National Museum of Art. It became the second most visited exhibition in the history of the LNMA in the past 30 years, attracting a total of 75,972 visitors.
The exhibition curator, Dr. art. Aija Brasliņa, scientific consultant Dr. art. Kristiāna Ābele, project manager Ieva Kalnača, exhibition artist Sandra Krastiņa, graphic design, and video by Mārtiņš Ratniks.
The nominees for the LMA Annual Award 2023 were evaluated based on the criteria: originality, relevance, coherence and quality, sustainability, and usability, as well as social impact. As a result of the jury's work, 12 nominees from all over Latvia were selected.
The candidates for the award were assessed by the jury committee, which includes one representative from the LMA Board and four invited committee members representing various sectors related to museum activities:
- Elīna Bērziņa, Head of the Education and Accessibility Department of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Board Member of the Latvian Museum Association;
- Laura Vinogradova, writer, laureate of the 2021 EU Literature Prize;
- Ingūna Elere, Artistic Director and Lead Designer at H2E, Professor at the Art Academy of Latvia, co-founder of SEGD Riga Chapter;
- Mārtiņš Mintaurs, PhD in History, Leading Researcher at the Research and Interpretation Centre of the Latvian National Library, and Associate Professor at the Faculty of History and Philosophy, University of Latvia;
- Marta Krivade, Strategic Communications Specialist with more than 15 years of experience in various communication disciplines and industries.
