Digital Image Requests

The Latvian National Museum of Art provides access to digital images of its collections for research, educational, publishing, and commercial purposes. Digital images are considered part of the museum’s collection and are protected in accordance with copyright laws and other regulatory frameworks.

Terms of Image Use

Digital images may be utilized for:

  • research;
  • educational purposes;
  • personal, non-commercial use.

All published images must be accompanied by a credit line referencing the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art.

If an image is published in a cropped or otherwise modified form, the citation must explicitly state that it is a fragment.

Commercial Use

The use of digital images for commercial purposes is permitted only with prior written authorization from LNMA.

Depending on the intended purpose of use, the service may be subject to the LNMA public price list for services.

The acquired digital files may only be used for the specific and approved purpose stated in the application.

Submission of Requests

To request digital images, please submit a written application to: .

The application should include the following details:

  • Applicant’s name, surname, position, and represented institution (if applicable), e-mail address, and telephone number.
  • The specific purpose of use (e.g. publication, academic research, exhibition catalogue, souvenir production, etc.).
  • Billing and invoicing details.
  • Information regarding the requested collection objects:
  1. author’s name and surname;
  2. title of the artwork;
  3. LNMA collection number and unified inventory number.

Personal data is processed solely for the purpose of the application handling in compliance with the LNMA Privacy Policy.

Copyright and Secondary Clearances

Please be advised:

  • If the digitized object is protected by active copyright, the applicant bears sole personal responsibility for securing copyright clearances from the respective rights holders.
  • The LNMA assumes no liability for copyright infringements committed by the applicant.
  • The acquired files may only be used for the specified purpose and may not be transferred, distributed, or sold to third parties.
  • Any subsequent or secondary use of the digital image must be formally coordinated with and authorized by the LNMA.

If an image is used in a book, journal, or other printed medium, we kindly ask that one complimentary copy of the publication or a digital equivalent be submitted to the LNMA Library upon release.

Processing of Requests

Applications are processed within 10 business days. Should any additional clarification be required, an LNMA specialist will contact you directly.

Image Availability

The LNMA provides high-quality digital files, subject to the current digitization capabilities.

If a high-resolution file for a specific object is not yet available, the LNMA will inform the applicant of potential solutions.
