Exhibition "India – The Land of Tradition" receives the annual ICOM Latvia award for successfully implemented international cooperation

On June 3, 2024, during the Latvian Museum Day, the Art Museum RĪGAS BIRŽA was awarded the Annual ICOM Latvia Award for successfully implementing international collaboration for the exhibition "India – Land of Traditions." The exhibition was on display at the museum from January 14 to April 8, 2023. The exhibition curator was Kristīne Milere, and the project received support from the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Indian Embassy in Stockholm.

The award recognizes the importance of the exhibition in highlighting both national and international issues, encouraging a reconsideration of the Eurocentric perspective and discussing decolonization processes and the impacts of Soviet colonialism.

The Latvian National Museum of Art houses over 500 works from India, making it the largest collection of Indian art in the Baltic States. The exhibition involved extensive research and contextualization of the collection in collaboration with the Eka Archiving Services research institution in New Delhi.
