Museum Visual Guide
Welcome to the Latvian National Museum of Art!
At the museum’s permanent exhibitions visitors can explore works from the Latvian painting, graphic art, and sculpture collections, dating from the 19th to the 20th century.
The museum regularly organizes thematic exhibitions and solo exhibitions of Latvian artists.

The museum is usually less crowded on weekdays after 3 PM and on weekends before 11 AM.

Museum Entrances
Entrance A
The main entrance from Kr. Valdemāra iela (there are 21 steps up to the entrance).
Entrance B
The street-level entrance with automatic doors from Kr. Valdemāra iela (suitable for visitors with reduced mobility and pushchairs).
Entrance C
The street-level entrance from Esplanade Park side.
On the park side of the museum is Jaņa Rozentāla Square – a pleasant spot to relax before or after the visit.
Museum Staff
Visitors may meet the following museum staff members:
Cashier
Cashier wears a white blouse and a dark blue jacket with the museum logo.
At the ticket office visitors can buy museum and event tickets.
Museum guard
Museum guards wear a white blouse and a dark blue jacket with the museum logo.
Museum guards may check tickets. Visitors are welcome to ask them questions about the museum visit.
Volunteer
Volunteers wear a white badge with their name and volunteer programme logo. Visitors are welcome to ask them questions about the museum visit.
Security Guard
Security guards wear a light blue shirt and black trousers. Guards are responsible for public safety and protection of artworks.
Cloackroom Area
Before entering the museum, visitors must leave coats, backpacks, umbrellas, and other large items in the cloakroom.
The cloakroom and lockers are located on the 1st floor (there are seven steps to get there).
Visitors are welcome to ask guards for assistance with the cloakroom or lockers.


Coats can also be left on the cloakroom stands in the 1st floor lobby (street level).

Toilets
Toilets are located on the 1st, 2nd 4th floors.


Accessible toilets are located on the 1st floor (opposite the restaurant) and on the 4th floor (to the right of the lift).

Buy Tickets
Tickets are available:
- at the ticket office (located between the 1st and 2nd floors (there are eight steps to get there));
- remotely using "Mobilly" mobile application.
Visitors are welcome to ask a museum guard for assistance with buying tickets.
Sometimes there may be a queue at the ticket office.
For a discount or free entry, the cashier will ask to show a valid document.

Free tickets are available at the ticket office and at the Information Point on the 2nd floor.
Museum guards may ask visitors to show their tickets throughout the visit.

Museum Rules
To protect the artworks, the following are not allowed:
Touching artworks;
Taking photos with flash;
Eating in the exhibition halls;
Drinking in the exhibition halls;
Entering with animals.
Allowed:
Pushchairs and wheelchairs;
Service dogs.
We encourage visitors to enjoy art and museum peacefully by observing, listening, and taking their time.
Please respect other visitors – avoid running, loud noises, and speak quitely.

The museum offers a free mobile app "Mākslas muzejs" with an audio guide available for download from GooglePlay orthe App Store.
The audio guide offers insights into the artworks and the museum’s unique architecture.
Navigating the Museum
Floor plans are displayed throughout the museum to help visitors navigate.
Informative stands with the titles are placed near the entrances to the exhibition halls.
All exhibition spaces are accessible to visitors with reduced mobility and pushchairs using stairs, lifts, a platform lift, and a ramp.





Please note that there are transparent glass elements in some areas of the museum – for example, in the 4th floor exhibition hall.

Museum Information Point
The 2nd floor lobby may at times be busier and noisier because:
- Visitors gather there before museum events.
- Information Point is located in this area.
At the Information Point visitors can:
- ask questions about the museum;
- borrow a wheelchair or portable chairs for use in the museum
- pick up a Family Pack.
The Family Pack includes educational games for children aged two and up, inspired by artworks from permanent displays.

Exhibition Halls
The museum includes various exhibition halls:
- Permanent Displays on the 3rd floor

- The Cupola Hall on the 5th floor
Please note that there are low wooden structures at this hall.

- Great Exhibition Hall

The museum regularly changes exhibitions; therefore, some exhibition halls may be closed during your visit.
Benches are available in exhibition halls and vestibules.
If no warning signs are posted, the exhibition hall does not include intense lighting effects, flashing lights, smoke, loud or sudden noises, or potentially disturbing content.
We Recommend
- Storage of paintings is located in the -1 floor lobby.
- The Museum Shop is located on the 1st floor.
It offers postcards, books, tableware, jewellery, and other souvenirs related to the museum and art.
- Museum Restaurant is located on the 1st floor.
It offers meals, as well as hot and cold beverages.
Events at the Museum
The museum regularly offers various events for children, adults, and seniors.
We recommend checking the daily event calendar to plan a quieter visit.



Closing Announcement
An audio announcement is played 30 and 15 minutes before the museum’s closing time to inform visitors of the upcoming closure.
15 minutes before closing, exhibition attendants kindly ask visitors to begin leaving the museum.
In Case of Emergency
In case of an emergency, an audio announcement will be played in the museum.
Visitors must remain calm and leave the building without delay, following the evacuation plans and instructions from museum staff.
