Painter Vija Celmiņa awarded with the Order of the Three Stars

On May 19, at Riga Castle, President Egils Levits awarded the Order of the Three Stars, 3rd Class, to New York-based Latvian painter Vija Celmins for her outstanding contributions to culture and significant contribution to the development of world contemporary art processes and the maintenance of national identity.

said Egils Levits, welcoming the painter.

The Chapter of the Order awarded Vija Celmiņš with the Order of the Three Stars, III Class, and appointed her Commander of the Order of the Three Stars at a meeting on October 18, 2019. The artist expressed her desire to receive the award in Latvia. Vija Celmiņš has currently arrived in Latvia after the opening of the Double vision exhibition at the Hamburg Art Museum.
