The Order of Three Stars

On May 4, the Day of the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, a ceremony was held at Riga Castle to present the highest state awards – the Order of Three Stars, the Viesturs Order, and the Cross of Recognition. Dr. art. Elita Ansone, curator of exhibitions at the Latvian National Museum of Art and an art scholar, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Three Stars.

In April, it was announced that, according to the decision of the President of Latvia and the Chapter of Orders, 104 members of society would receive Latvia’s highest state awards – the Order of Three Stars, the Viesturs Order, and the Cross of Recognition.

For her merits in culture and her outstanding contribution to the research and promotion of Latvian visual art, Dr. art. Elita Ansone, curator of exhibitions at the Latvian National Museum of Art, was awarded the Order of Three Stars.

The Order of Three Stars, Latvia’s highest state award, was established in 1924 in memory of the founding of the Latvian state and was reinstated in 1994. Its motto is Per aspera ad astraThrough hardships to the stars.

The Order of Three Stars is awarded for exceptional merit in service to the Fatherland. These merits can manifest in state, municipal, public, cultural, educational, scientific, sports, or economic activities.

Merits may be recognized as an outstanding individual achievement, long-term exemplary and successful work, or special contributions during Latvia’s independence restoration period or in strengthening the state further.
