Latvian Museum Association Annual Award 2023:
Lifetime Achievement Award

On May 22, 2023, as part of Museum Day organized by the Latvian Museum Association, the LMA Annual Award 2023 will be presented. Alongside the main award, the 'Mērija Grīnberga Award' for Lifetime Achievement will be granted to Māra Lāce, Director of the Latvian National Museum of Art.

Māra Lāce began her career at the museum in 1973 as a guide. Today, she serves as the director of Latvia’s most significant visual arts institution—the Latvian National Museum of Art. Over the years, she has mastered various museum professions, having worked as a curator of the graphics collection, the chief collection keeper, and the deputy director for scientific work.

Under Māra Lāce’s leadership, the Latvian National Museum of Art has not only documented, preserved, and promoted Latvia’s cultural heritage but has also actively contributed to identifying and evaluating contemporary events and outstanding achievements in Latvian professional visual arts. This has fostered the intensity of the Latvian art scene, encouraged the development of new projects and original ideas, and promoted the creative successes of Latvian artists both within the country and internationally.
